LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan must have in a much better position today had a simple lifestyle preferred over lavish one, viable economic policies adopted and effective steps taken for elimination of corruption in the last 63 years. The CM was addressing the inaugural session of the first two-day Youth Conference of Chief Minister Punjab Youth Commission here on Friday. As many as 360 members of the Youth Commission from 36 districts of the province were also present in the opening session. He said that the gulf between the rich and the poor is widening and the common man is under the clutches of price-hike. He said that society cannot make progress until a poor man considers himself a patriotic Pakistani. He said for the development of the nation and the country, a fair system of justice, equitable distribution of resources need to be ensured apart from eliminating injustice and oppression in the society. He said if Allah gives him an opportunity, merit will prevail in the country and equal facilities will be available to the rich and the poor. He said the purpose of the youth conference is to create a healthy society and to purge it of the corruption and to bring a vibrant system in the country as per the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. The CM said new generation is a precious asset that guarantees a bright future for Pakistan. Addressing the young talented students reached from all over the province, the CM said their aims are high and they have the ability to bring change in the society as well as to steer Pakistan out of the current crisis and put it on the road to progress. He said todays Pakistan doesnt reflect the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. Corruption is rampant in police stations where criminals are given respect while oppressed are turned into oppressors for a few bucks. He said the elite are enjoying every facility but the poor are moving from pillar to post to get their needs of roti and medicine fulfilled. He said a society cannot survive without justice and they need to build a welfare society wherein all citizens enjoy equal rights. He said children are forced to do labour instead of getting education, adding that child labour is a blot on the face of the society. He said if we do not achieve the goal of 100 percent literacy rate, we will fail to achieve development targets. He said the future of Pakistan is linked to technical education. He said that besides studying arts subjects, students should pay special attention to science subjects, as scientific knowledge is vital to the development of the country. He said besides preparing the syllabus of vocational education on modern lines and in accordance with the needs of market, five students will be sent to Ivy League Universities for higher studies and after completion of their studies, they can play their due role in this socio-economic development of the country. He asked the young people to come forward who are interested in working voluntarily for increasing literacy rate adding, the government will provide them honorarium.He said that government is implementing a comprehensive programme for eliminating unemployment from the province and recently teachers and constables have been appointed in education and police departments on merit. He said the qualities of hard work and honesty will have to be adopted for a healthy society. He said that Punjab government has also decided to allot state land to agri graduates so that they can play their role in improving the economy. He said Punjab is an agrarian province and solid measures have been taken for the welfare of farmers as 20 thousands tractors have been given to them on concessionary rates in a transparent manner and a subsidy of Rs4 billion has been given for this purpose. Earlier, educationalist Dr Zafar Iqbal Qureshi while addressing the ceremony said that the Youth Commission has been established in accordance with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister. He said the country is passing through a critical phase and if we do not put it on the right track, we cannot achieve our goal. He said that the youth will have to resolve that they will enhance the prestige of Pakistan in the world.

LAHORE: People are quick to criticise steps taken for people’s welfare, but when it comes to raising voice against people who robbed the Bank of Punjab or those who looted national wealth, Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.
He said that no one was criticising those who had loans worth billions of rupees written off.
Addressing the concluding session of the two-day Punjab Youth Conference, the chief minister said that the country depended on its youth to bring it out of crisis.
Sharif announced the setting up of the Punjab Youth Commission and said a considerable amount would be set aside in the provincial budget for the establishment of the Youth Employment Fund. Terming the youth conference unique in the country’s history, Sharif said members of the Punjab Youth Commission had highlighted national problems in an effective manner.
He said that proposals presented by students for resolving national problems indicated that Pakistan ‘will definitely benefit from their positive approach and fresh outlook’. The chief minister said that Pakistan was facing a number of problems.
“We depend upon others to bail us out of tough situations and taking dictation from superpowers has become the norm.”
